A Little Background . . .
"To Know Christ and to Make Him Known" has been the vision statement for the MSU Baptist Student Union since its inception. In a small corner of the YMCA building basement, Baptist work began at MSU in the 1920's. Even from the beginning of BSU, there was a dream of those involved that someday, somehow, we would have a building of our own in which to minister. That dream became a reality on November 19, 1961 when the initial BSU Center was dedicated. Because of continued growth of the BSU, the center was expanded and renovated in 1984 and rededicated on Homecoming, October 13, 1984.
Why the need for a new BSU Center?
New student involvement, Bible Studies, discipleship groups, and mission activities are continually increasing. Literally, there is no more space! For six weeks in the Fall of 2009, students filled the assembly area and sat in the kitchen, on the stairs, on the floor, on the stage, in the entrance halls, and lined the walls to hear the Word of God taught during PRIORITY. The present facility has limited our scope, but not our vision to know Christ and to make Him known to college students on the Mississippi State campus and around the world. Additional space will help us reach more students and enhance the total ministry of the BSU.
